Seasonal Visitor Services Associate (P/T)

This is a seasonal position running May 11, 2021 through July 18, 2021. Hours scheduled will vary, usually 16 to 25 hours per week, and will include primarily weekend shifts.
 
Job Duties:
 
  • Sales of memberships, tickets, store merchandise, and coffee/snacks. The candidate will be required to meet minimum sales goals as a condition of employment.
  • Providing outstanding customer service to Garden guests, including but not limited to greeting, encouraging membership, assisting with purchases, and providing Garden information.
  • Merchandising and stocking.
  • Performing inventory counts and Shop tasks as assigned.
  • Performing departmental clerical tasks as assigned and answering the phone.
  • Substituting in other areas of the department as scheduled, including Garden vehicles and opening/closing kiosks with water stations.
  • Position will require sitting, standing, bending, lifting, and driving. The ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds, with occasional lifting up to 50 pounds, is required.
  • Other duties as assigned by your supervisor.
 
Job Qualifications:
  • The ability to work a flexible schedule, including day shifts, night shifts, weekends, and holidays.
  • A commitment to superior customer service.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills.
  • Cash handling, sales, and customer service experience preferred.
  • The ability to work both inside and outside in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Valid Driver’s license

Seasonal Member Services Associate (P/T)

Responsibilities include:

·Selling of Fairchild memberships

·Greeting members and the public while offering excellent customer service to all Fairchild visitors and members

·Understanding the different Membership categories and related benefits

·Assisting with office duties in the Membership and Database departments

·Assisting with guest services and admissions

·Working closely with corporate sponsorship, membership, admission and special events

·Assisting with data entry and record maintenance

·Assisting with phone campaign sales and renewing members

·Supporting cash handling and customer service in membership

·Other duties as set by your supervisor

Qualifications: 

  • A commitment to superior customer service
  • Sales experience
  • Comfortable speaking to diverse groups of people
  • Proactive in anticipating and troubleshooting program details
  • Retail or customer service experience preferred for some positions
  • Excellent communication skills and inter-personal skills
  • Ability to work an extremely flexible schedule, during evenings, early mornings, days, weekends, and holidays.
  • This position is primarily on Saturdays and Sundays
  • Able to work as a team player in a high-energy environment
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds
  • Proficient with basic computer skills

Volunteer Coordinator Intern

Job Description:

Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden (FTBG) is currently seeking a Volunteer Coordinator Intern to assist with the daily operations of the Volunteer Department Program. Help recruit, select, train, motivate, and supervise volunteers. You will gain administrative and organizational skills, learn about non-profit management. The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated, self-starter looking to increase the profile of service and volunteerism benefiting FTBG. This position will report to the Director of Human Resources & Volunteer Services and will be an active participant in a dynamic team who work to connect the community with service opportunities benefiting FTBG. Interns work 25-40 hours per week for a minimum of 12 consecutive weeks. Positions are experience-based and are therefore unpaid.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in developing volunteer opportunities for FTBG, including conducting research, recruitment, and onsite attendance/management.
  • Provide support for volunteer coordination and events, scheduling volunteer events, and communicating with volunteers.
  • Assist with activities related to volunteer recruitment, training, and retention, and coordinating events.
  • Assist with volunteer Jurassic Garden duties such as development, planning, coordination, and execution as needed.
  • Assist with all communications including print marketing, targeted participant recruitment and online listings when appropriate.
  • Assist in writing volunteer newsletters and other email announcements to volunteers.
  • Files, photocopies/scans, data entry and manages data within Volgistics, a volunteer management database.
  • Assist with managing volunteer applicants and tracks pending applicants.
  • Revamp volunteer web pages on the FTBG website.
  • Take photos of volunteers during service.
  • Assist volunteers at the Wings of Tropics Butterfly Exhibit as needed.
  • Assist staff as needed with special projects.

Qualifications:

  • An undergraduate student enrolled in an accredited college or university.
  • Enthusiasm and patience in working with volunteers of all ages; ability to work with a diverse group of individuals
  • Knowledge of various computer systems, including Microsoft Office (Office, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher and Outlook)
  • Basic working knowledge of internet social networking tools
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Self-motivated, flexible, quick learner, and possesses a high level of personal integrity
  • Ability to lift objects up to 40 lbs., work in a variety of weather conditions and stand/walk for long periods of time is preferred

Education Undergraduate

This position will assist in delivering environmental science-based educational programming to elementary and/or secondary students at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden. Programs run weekly during the school year from 9:30 am – 1:00 pm; must be able to commit to at least one day per week (during program hours) for fall and/or spring semester. Preference will be given to those who are available from September – May.
